Common methods of casting machine tool castings

Sand casting is the common casting method for machine tool castings, followed by special casting methods, such as metal casting, investment casting, gypsum casting and so on. Sand casting can be divided into clay sand mold, organic binder sand mold, resin self-hardening sand mold, lost foam mold and so on.
Principles of casting method selection:
1. Sand casting is preferred because of its low cost, simple production process and short production cycle compared with other casting methods. When the wet type can not meet the requirements, the clay sand table dry sand type, dry sand type or other sand type should be considered. The weight of wet clay sand casting can range from several kilograms to tens of kilograms, while that of dry clay casting can reach tens of tons.
2, casting method should be compatible with production lot size. Low pressure casting, die casting, centrifugal casting and other casting methods are only suitable for mass production because of the high cost of equipment and moulds.
3, modeling method should be suitable for factory conditions.
1. The flexible design of bed castings provides sufficient freedom for the structural design of machine tool castings. Highly complex castings can be produced by foam plastic mold combination.
2. There is no sand core in traditional casting, so there will be no uneven wall thickness in traditional sand casting due to the imprecise size of sand core or the inaccurate location of core laying.
3. There is no chemical binder in cleaner production moulding sand. Foam plastics are harmless to the environment at low temperature. The recovery rate of used sand is more than 95%.
4, reduce investment and production costs, reduce the weight of machine tool casting blank, machining allowance is small.
